One and Two sections are comprised of eight members - these are primarily infantry sections. Each section contains a Corporal (as the section commander), a Lance Corporal (as the second in command (2IC)) and six privates. The section is split into two four man fire teams, referred to as charlie and delta - each one led by the Corporal or Lance Corporal.

The third section, 1 Flight is comprised of one or more members for rotary wing flight duty. The Flight Section led by a Corporal. This section is currently flying Chinook, Puma and Blackhawk helicopters in the air assault, CASEVAC and heavy lift (resupply) roles.

The HQ element is led by a junior officer (Second Lieutenant or Lieutenant) and a Platoon Sergeant. As well as being in overall command the HQ is responsible for organisation on the battlefield, from organising CASEVACs to ammunition replenishment.
